Space Weather Release

Space Weather for Windows Phone is out.  This addresses an issue that was causing the app to crash.  We also sneaked in a feature that shows more variety of images on the Aurora forecast and Alerts page.

Red Stripe Deal! Half Off!

Microsoft contacted us last week and asked if we would like to participate in the Red Stripe deal for Windows Phone and Windows 8!  We said “Yes!”

Space Weather 4.1 Released

Hot on the trail of version 4, we have released 4.1.  This includes some bug fixes, optimizations, and the return of the solar storm indicators.  You will now see the current geomagnetic storm status as well as the solar x-ray status on the main pivot.  Update now to get the latest features!

As always, you can download the app here:

Space Weather 4.0 for Windows Phone 8 Released

We released Space Weather 4.0. This redesign is the product of the design consultation I won from Microsoft and Nokia.

Here are the details of this release:

  • Nokia/Microsoft Design consultation refresh
  • Redesigned entire application
  • Kp on main pivot on a scale of 0-9
  • Aurora on ellipse shows the intensity
  • Aurora activity likelihood is shown on main pivot
  • Flickr images of auroras displayed on first and second pivot, space weather images displayed on Forecast and Last 24h
  • Active Alert count displayed on Alerts pivot
  • Alert list isn’t so busy or bold
  • Alert details page is toned down
  • Alert details shows the summary in the header
  • Explore pivot redesigned, charts are now included in this hub rather than its own panorama item
  • Live Tile redesigned. It now shows the Kp index scale just like the first pivot or a condensed version depending on the size (we like the Wide Tile with a transparent background on 8.1)
  • Live Tile counter updates according to the current active alerts (Anything in the alerts section which has occurred in the last 24 hours).
  • Lockscreen removed. This will make a return in future versions. We didn’t think it was up to par with the rest of the application and ran out of time. This will make its way back soon.
  • Thanks again DVLUP, Nokia, and Microsoft!

Big Update Coming for Space Weather

It’s been pretty quiet around here lately, mainly because I have been working on an update for Space Weather. Space Weather 4.0 is coming soon. Here’s a preview of the redesign.

Comet ISON

Comet ISON made its trip around the sun yesterday, surprisingly it survived.  You can check out the action using Space Weather app for Windows Phone.  Over the next few days the movies section will show comet ISON’s journey.  Here are some screenshots from the app.

Space Weather Updated to

We’ve released an update for Space Weather for Windows Phone.  Microsoft has a pretty fast turnaround time right now. This was certified less than 48 hours after we submitted it!  This release was mainly to address some bugs but we also added some more images in the gallery.  We’ve also added a feedback link in-app (and someone has already used it!) so feel free to send your comments.  In true Agile fashion, the feedback form consists of:

Don’t forget to set your lock screen

If you are using Space Weather for Windows Phone 8, don’t forget that we added lock screen functionality in 3.0.  You can set your lock screen to always show the latest space weather information.  Just go to settings in app or in your phone’s settings to change it.
